The Lakeland Wildlife Oasis
Lakeland's award winning Wildlife Discovery Centre is a unique and exciting blend of exotic wildlife and interactive 'hands-on' displays and makes a fascinating family day out. The Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is situated between Carnforth and Milnthorpe and is a short journey from junction 35 of the M6 motorway.
A novel all weather attraction, containing many threatened species, the oasis is home to a fascinating array of lizards, bats, birds, monkeys, tropical fish and more, taking the visitor on a journey through 3000 million years of evolution. There are over 25 different hands-on exhibits.
The aquarium, an ideal venue for wet days, contains both freshwater and colourful and exotic marine fish, including many highly unusual specimens including African lungfish and mudskippers.
The centre's butterfly house is equally interesting, a miniature tropical jungle, it features free flying exotic butterflies, as well as many other tiny life forms, including a fascinating colony of South American leaf cutter ants and tarantulas.
The monkey house is a great favourite with children and is home to squirrel monkeys, tamarins and a breeding colony of marmosets. The walk through aviary holds a bewildering variety of birds.
The interesting interactive displays at the centre include computer programs, projection microscopes, an animal rubber stamping trail and fossil rubbing.
Picnic facilities, free parking, cafe, gift shop and disabled access throughout.
