National Park Visitor Centre
The Lake District National Park Visitor Centre is situated on the
banks of Lake Windermere at Brockhole, between Waterhead and Troutbeck Bridge. It houses the 'Living Lakeland' exhibition on the evolution and development of the National Park.
The mansion was built in the late nineteenth century by a wealthy Manchester cotton magnate. The centre hosts a programme of guided walks and exhibitions, there are childrens activities, gardens with a fine selection of mature trees, information centre, a popular adventure playground, gift shop and cafe. Pay and display car park. Lake cruises are availiable from the jetty. Good pushchair and wheelchair access.
There are 30 acres of terraced gardens and grounds, designed by Thomas Mawson in 1898 including:-

*Spring bulbs, rhododendrons and azaleas, magnolias and camellias
*Herbaceous and mixed borders
*Old fashioned and shrub roses
*Wildflower meadow
*Kitchen garden with fruit, vegetables, herbs and cut flowers
