Chapel Stile, on the River Brathay, is situated at the foot of Great Langdale. The village makes a good centre in which to base a fell walking holiday. The main industry in Great Langdale was slate quarrying, the area is famous for its distinctive green slate.

Holy Trinity Church
The village church of Holy Trinity stands below cliffs and is built from the local distinctive green slate in the decorated Gothic style, the building dates from 1857 and has several stained glass windows characteristic of the Victorian period.

In the churchyard lies the grave of Owen Lloyd, a friend of Wordsworth, its inscription was composed by the poet.
A 2 acre mountain garden at Copt How is open to the public. It holds superb collections of acers, camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, rare shrubs, trees, unusual perennials and conifers, as well as expedition plants from worldwide mountainous regions and is well worth a visit
.The Langdale Boulders at Copt Howe have recently been designated by English Heritage as an ancient monument of national importance, following the discovery of prehistoric 'cup and ring' markings. These consist of indentations and concentric circles, which date to about 2,500-5,000 years ago.
