Ashness Bridge
The small but picturesque humped back bridge at Ashness, is backed by some superb views of Derwentwater.

The view down to the lake from the bridge is breathtaking, a contender for the accolade of the finest view in Lakeland, it has graced more calendars than many other places in the Lake District.
Barrow Beck as it passes under the packhorse bridge at Ashness
The bridge, which crosses Barrow Beck, is an excellent example of a packhorse bridge, and can be reached via an extremely narrow winding road which is littered with cattle grids. Upstream from the bridge, on Ashness Gill there is a dramatic waterfall.
Derwentwater from Surprise View
Ashness Wood is inhabited with rare red squirrels. A scenic footpath through the wood starts from the car park just beyond the bridge. The walk proceeds to a cliff edge point known as Surprise View which offers superb views of both Derwentwater, Skiddaw and Borrowdale. Alternatively it can be driven to by continuing along the narrow winding road. On a clear day it is possible to see Bassenthwaite Lake in the distance.
